Excellence in Education Award
To earn an Excellence in Education Award, the student must meet the following criteria:
- First, he/she must have a minimum goal of 8 and achieve the goal for each lab during the week.
- Second, the student must complete 80% of his/her work judged at Standard of Best in order to be eligible for the Excellence in Education Award. If the student achieves his/her goal but does not reach the minimum Standard of Best criteria, a lesser award is not presented.
- Third, the student must continue the commit to achieving his/her goal every lab even if it means continuing to work after lab and/or taking work home for completion.
- Fourth, the student must complete four homework assignments per week. Each assignment is designed to take between twenty to thirty minutes. Fifth, the student must maintain a comprehension level of at least 80% on all subjects.
As a reward for taking this step of growth, the student is allowed to work in the Independent Studies Program each lab after completing one work unit beyond his/her goal. With a goal of 9, the student only has to do one work unit beyond his goal for the first two labs. For labs three and four, the student can go to Independent Studies directly after getting his goal. And with a goal of 10, the student goes directly to Independent Studies after achieving his goal. Also, students are able to arrange their own sequence of curriculum for the entire day. The subjects are assigned by the program, but the student can do them in any order he or she chooses.
Note: After the student has averaged .80 above his goal for the passed six to eight weeks, a short video automatically is played for the student about his eligibility to take the next step of growth in terms of raising his goal. A flag will appear at the same time in ‘Time with my Teacher’ making the teacher or parent aware of the student's eligibility. Once the student has taken the step of growth with the parent in terms of the next commitment, a short video is played congratulating the student.
